Lodge Cast Iron Scrapers — The Right Tool for Cast Iron Cleaning

The cardinal rule of cast iron cleaning is never use metal scourers or steel wool on a seasoned surface — they strip polymerized layers that took months to build. Polycarbonate scrapers remove stuck food without damaging the seasoning.

How to use them

After cooking and while the pan is still warm: scrape stuck food with the flat edge. Rinse with hot water — no soap (soap dissolves seasoning over time). Dry completely on a burner for 1–2 minutes. Rub a thin oil coat across the cooking surface. The scraper handles 95% of cleaning situations without soap or abrasives.

When soap is acceptable

Light dish soap used occasionally does not destroy seasoning — the saturated oil polymerization is robust enough to withstand soap contact. If a pan smells rancid from incorrect storage (wet storage), use soap and a sponge to reset the surface, then re-season.

The two shapes

One scraper has a straight edge for flat scraping; the other has a pointed corner for cleaning the junction between the base and sides. Both fit in a kitchen drawer and last indefinitely.
